Abstract: Optimising the design of nanoscale hybrid materials can permit the development of novel architectures for different technological applications. Critical to this end is the ability to control the interface of the single components, from their spatial separation to the physics and chemistry of the interface, towards the enhancement of their synergistic coupling.
In this context, I will present strategies for the assembly, (bio)functional and optoelectronic tunability of zero dimensional (0D), one dimensional (1D) and two dimensional (2D) nanomaterials and their heterostructures, with nanoscale spatial control and single-molecule resolution. I will discuss how we employed DNA as a functional linking and template moiety for the construction of static and dynamic (stimuli-responsive) nanohybrids and devices, with tailored biosensing, biomimetic and optoelectronic response.
Additionally, I will present an overview of the future research plans that I intend to pursue within the Department of Physics of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
